Hey Everyone,

So, FEST 8 is officially a week over. We all have had time to clean up the mess, kick back and share some stories over cold ones, and most importantly caught up on much needed rest. Looking back on last weekend I have to say with all honesty this was the best run FEST ever! I have to sling a massive thanks to all my main crew that ran shit over the weekend as well as all the volunteers and venues for their help. It takes a community to run a FEST and we showed the world that we have the best! I also want to thank all the bands who rocked our asses all weekend. I actually got to see more this year than ever but also missed way more than I got to see but that is more the reason why the bands need to tour to Gainesville and play a non-FEST show so we can not work and enjoy it!

Now with FEST 8 being over we are going to start to focus on our next party, HARVEST OF HOPE 2010. Dates are going to be March 12-14th . Bands confirmed so far are LEATHERFACE, ANTI-FLAG, SMALL BROWN BIKE, TORCHE, DEAD TO ME, MERCURY PROGRAM, COBRA SKULLS, HOLOPAW, ASSHOLEPARADE, OFF WITH THEIR HEADS, LEMURIA, ANDREW JACKSON JIHAD, SHELLSHAG, CAPSULE, FIN FANG FOOM, A DEATH IN THE FAMILY, THE RIOT BEFORE, TILTWHEEL, DAN PADILLA, WORN IN RED, AMERICAN CHEESEBURGER, BEN DAVIS AND THE JETT$, UNDERGROUND RAILROAD TO CANDYLAND, THE MEZINGERS, ALERNON CADWALLADER, THE MEASURE [SA], THIS BIKE IS A PIPE BOMB, O PIONEERS, AND DEFIANCE OHIO.

So, lots of FEST friends with many more acts to come.

If you forgot to grab FEST shirts while you were here we have them available through the NO IDEA RECORDS webstore. They are at a closeout price of $10 and are available while supplies last. We also have a bunch of guidebooks left over so if you lost yours just drop a note in your order and we will sling you one. We ran out of Koozies. Sorry!

We are starting to collect footage from the craziness from the weekend.

Check out our good buddy Todd Flixler’s photos posted on Alternative Press’s Website: You can also check out lots of video footage Scott Heisel from AP shot last weekend at the site as well.

Thinker Thought also captured a ton of sets from FEST 8. Check them out on Jared’s YouTube channel.

Here are some pics from our friend Nicole Kibert. You can check them out on her Flicker page.

Every day more and more footage keeps popping up on YouTube and look out for some killer footage from National Underground who had a massive team out filming all weekend.

Hope everyone had a blast at FEST 8! I hope to update the site starting next week with YouTube footage from this year, photos from our crew who shot all weekend, and stories from you guys. So if you have stories you want to share please email them to tony@noidearecords.com. Include photos if you have them. I will read over them and hopefully we can axe one of the pages on the site to make room for them. All depends on how much we can talk the Black Axe guys into working on the site more.

So, check back every Friday and hopefully we will be able to keep the FEST spirit alive and well. Thanks again to you all for coming, being cool, and loving all the work we put into FEST 8!

Cheers!

-Tony Weinbender and the FEST crew

Happy Sunday folks,

As the day is drawing even closer to FEST and the computer screen continues to melt my retinas, I just wanted to share an awesome podcast that we jam in the office a bunch throughout the year. Our buddy Jeff from over in Tallahassee has been doing Rocket Fuel Podcast for the last couple years and always does an awesome job of covering THE FEST! He just launched this year's Fest 8 edition with a bunch of stuff from our buds in A Wilhelm Scream, plus tight jams from a ton of other FEST bands large and small. Go check it out here! We'll see all your ugly drunk mugs in a few days!

Hey Everyone,

So, we are officially one week away! It is cooling down in Gainesville. People are already starting to pop up in town a week early, ready to enjoy the good times. There are many pre-FEST happenings planned to build the excitement level that I will go over later in this post. We here in the No Idea house are busy as you can imagine, getting everything in order and wearing our stressface for most of the waking hours. FEST is full blown in the air down here!!! So, with a week out pretty much this update is going to be filled with reminders. So, crack a cold one, settle in, and get ready start prepping your human existence for the most fun you can possibly have in three days!!!

First and foremost FEST 8 weekend passes are almost SOLD OUT! I say ALMOST because we have about 200 left to sell on line. I very well think they might blow out after this weekend but always check out the ticket page to see. If we have them they will still be offered there. We also still have passes available at our regional outlets so check there as well. You can find that info on the ticket page as well. So remind all your slack friends to get on the ball and don’t wait ‘til the last minute because they might not be available. THE FEST has sold out prior to the weekend of the last two years. I would not see why this stellar year would be any different.

Volunteer spaces are filled!!! If you have signed up to volunteer for FEST 8 please remember to drop your shirt off with us at the No Idea house and you need to come to the MANDATORY VOLUNTEER WORK/ TRAINING MEETING!!! The meeting will be at 7pm on Wednesday Oct 28th at the Holiday Inn on University and 13th. 2nd floor.

All the info about where to pick up your weekend passes, volunteer passes, media passes, and band info packs/passes is on the Registration page. Go there first before you email us a dumb question.

There have been a few tweeks to the FEST 8 schedule. Check it out on the SCHEDULE PAGE. Nothing crazy or drastic just a few bands can’t make it now so some shows have been shortened. The show that was scheduled for George’s has been moved to a space we are calling Cam’s Cove. We will post a before and after picture so you can all see how we can pull off the impossible sometimes.

Offical FEST hotels are sold out!!! Go to www.Hotels.com for alternatives.

We still have space open for vending at the FEST 8 FLEA MARKET. Check out the deal on the FLEA MARKET PAGE.

If you are getting in town or Florida before FEST we have compiled a list of things/ shows/ events we think are pretty awesome.

Hello FEST FOLK,

Friday is here once again and maybe it is just the work load putting this thing together but is seems like I was just writing last weeks update. So as the days fly by so does the count down to FEST 8!!!

We do not have much new to update since last week, when we launched the schedule, so this week we bring you two awesome video’s courtesy of our good friends over at NATIONAL UNDERGROUND.

They have recently posted two awesome FEST related videos.

First is a preview for a documentary on FEST. It is a work in progress and National Underground have been teaming up with Blue Elephant Media to make it happen. You can check out the preview featuring segments from interviews with Dan Yemin (Paint it Black/ Lifetime/ Armalite) Atom Goren (Atom and His Package/ Armalite), Brendan Kelly (The Lawrence Arms), The Flatliners, Static Radio, and OK Pilot on the National Underground site right here.

National Underground also posted video and downloadable audio of the entire Dillinger Four set from FEST 7 last year. You can check the 60 minute long set here. I watched this last night! I laughed, I cried, I slammed a few adult beverages. D4 last year really summed up what FEST is about and if you did not know Paddy will be sure to tell you all about it. I honestly want to clock and see if they played more than Paddy ranted. You also get some good shots of FEST/ NO IDEA crew looking pretty lit on the side of the stage!

FEST WEEKEND PASSES ARE GETTING CLOSE TO SELLING OUT!!! Yep, it is getting down to the wire here, so if you have been slacking the time to get your passes is now! Spread the word to all your friends. We want everyone to make it to the party! You can get your passes on our ticket page. There are also a list of regional Florida FEST 8 Pass outlets. Check them out!

If you are interested in volunteering for FEST 8, we are full at the moment but will be having one last sign up meeting Monday the 12th at 7pm on the second floor of the Holiday Inn (13th and Univ.). We will be signing up people who are still interested in an alternate position. This will be in case we decide we need more people or a volunteer decides they can no longer volunteer. If you come to this meeting please bring photo ID and a piece of mail or bill to prove your address. THIS WILL BE THE LAST VOLUNTEER SIGN UP MEETING and attending does not guarantee you a volunteer position.

If you missed previous week’s news post, read further down below to check out talks of THE FEST ART SHOW, The SCHEDULE being posted, SMALL BROWN BIKE playing, and other goodies.

If you would like to help us spread the word about THE FEST 8 you can email streetteam@thefestfl.com with all your contact info and where you can put up posters at in your town. Also, please email us a general idea of how many posters you wish to take on.

You can also help us out by going to this page and stealing the FEST 8 web banner. You just cut and paste the link into your personal page so everyone can see it. Check them out here!

Also, in the past week we had a handful of Brits decide to cancel their rooms at The Holiday Inn, so we now have a small number of rooms available. They include Kings and Doubles and are for all kinds of different nights, so reservations will be taken by phone only to make sure we don’t over sell anything! If you’re interested in booking a room, give my lovely secretary Cam a call and let him know. He can be reached at 352-379-9099 and is in the office weekdays from 10am-7pm. If you want to call at night or over the weekend, please leave a detailed voice message with your name, phone number, and what day and time you called, and he will call folks back in the order in which they called to make everything fair and square. Rates are still $169 plus tax a night and the party there is going to be raging.

That is it for this week. Now a few of us are off to Valadosta, GA to watch Coody from Ninja Gun get hitched!!! Have an awesome weekend and get ready for the most amazing FEST weekend ever!!!

Hey Everyone,

Well today is the day many of you have been waiting for (and bugging the crap out of us for). Today we are proud as can be to announce the official schedule for FEST 8!!! Click here to check out THE FEST 8 SCHEDULE

We have looked over and over it so many times that when I close my eyes at night all I see are small Excell blocks flying about in space. Really exciting stuff! Enjoy, plan your weekend, see when you are playing and who you are playing against and hopefully everyone will be moderately content with our planning. If you have attended FEST in the past you know there are always tough decisions to be made that weekend. We just have too many amazing bands playing, so sorry if we tried to get all your favorites in town at the same time. I am sure this will not be the absolute final version. Bands always pop up now to tell us their conflicts and stuff. I am really looking forward to our email boxes on Monday morning!

When you check out the schedule you will also notice a few new spots added this year. This is why we were able to add so many more bands this year! So, when you go to these places be super super awesome to them for being nice enough to have your jerk face in there.

New Venues Added:

Flaco’s- Flaco’s is located on the corner right beside Durty Nelly’s. In the front there is this amazing Cuban joint that many of you who visit during the FEST have made it a staple for late night grub jam. In the back they now have a little draft bar and a space for musicians to play. Every Wednesday night, a few buddies of ours play in there. Shows are always free, always fun, and always packed. A super awesome dude and musician in town, Michael Claytor, approached me about having some of his friends play. He also offered up to provide his PA and run the shows for us. Check out his awesome jams here. These shows will be all ages and free for everyone, so pop in there and check out some awesome local and touring acts as well as a few surprise acoustic versions of some of your favorite bands.

CMC- The CMC (website) has been around Gainesville for as long as I can remember. It was one of the first places many of us got to see Against Me! in their early stages. They just moved to a new location on S. Main and with the new location came lots more room to do awesome stuff. Replay Dave who works at No Idea with us started doing these Tuesday night acoustic shows there to raise funds and awareness for the CMC. They went very well and are still going strong. Dave approached me about doing something at CMC during FEST this year. After meeting with the amazing folks at the CMC, I left feeling that it was going to be a beautiful space to do a showcase. I am very happy to say we have great shows lined up there and think it will also open lots of folks’ eyes to how strong a community can be. They also have a lot near the building and are offering parking for a small donation. This is perfect for any of you who want a place to stash your ride between The Kickstand and downtown.

Parking will cost $5 a day and is available from 12pm - 2am at 11 SE 5th Avenue. (South on Main St. Left on SE 5th Ave, on your immediate right). Reserve your spot as there are only 30 spaces! Email daachagallery@gmail.com.

Rum Runners- Rum Runners (website) used to be a Fat Tuesday’s. Still looks like one too. They have a wall of frozen drink machines and a giant Gator statue in the corner with Mardi Gras beads all over it. My buddy Bobby came to me and said the new owners were super nice and wanted to do FEST shows there. We went down one Friday, had a few frozen treats, and talked to the owner. He was stoked to have us invade his venue for the weekend and is ready for a full-blown party! So, we have Savage Brewtality in there for the kick off. Figured if they want the party we can bring it to them. But word of warning: total brain freeze on too many of those frozen adult beverages!

If you are interested in volunteering for FEST 8 check the news post below this one.

If you missed last week’s news post, read further down below to check out talks of THE FEST ART SHOW, SMALL BROWN BIKE playing, trailer for the FEST documentary, and other goodies.

If you would like to help us spread the word about THE FEST 8 you can email streetteam@thefestfl.com with all your contact info and where you can put up posters at in your town. Also, please email us a general idea of how many posters you wish to take on.

That is it for this week. Short and sweet. Not sure what will pop up for our news announcement for next Friday but I am sure with a month left we will be updating you all on other non-official things going down FEST weekend and pre-FEST shows in the works. We also hope to have a page up with artist features on the FEST 8 ART SHOW and who will be setting up at THE FEST FLEA MARKET. If you are interested in vending please check out the Flea Market section of our site. It’s time to head to Common Grounds happy hour!!! Cheers Doggies!!!

If you live in the Gainesville area and want to help out and be a part of THE Fest 8, here’s your chance! THE Fest 8 is looking for kick ass, friendly, and serious volunteers. Volunteers are always needed over the weekend of The Fest, and we offer a free pass to anyone who works a shift the weekend of. You will also get a Fest 8 shirt that no one else can buy. A shift runs about 6 hours and is anything from working registration, checking wristbands at the door, helping bands load equipment, to being a rock star stage manager.

Volunteer sign-up meetings will be held the following dates, in the second floor conference room of THE HOLIDAY INN – UNIVERSITY CENTER.

THE HOLIDAY INN
Holiday Inn - University Center
1250 W. University Ave.
Gainesville, Florida 32601

Monday Oct 5th- 7:00pm
Thursday Oct 8th -7:00pm
Monday Oct 12th- 7:00pm
Wednesday Oct 14th – 7:00pm

*You only need to come to ONE of the sign up meetings. At the meetings, we will go over job descriptions and then allow you to sign up for a shift to work Fest 8 weekend. For every shift you work, you will receive a free Fest 8 pass for the entire weekend and a limited edition Fest 8 shirt that is only for volunteers. If you work as a stage manager for a show, you will receive two Fest 8 passes for your shift.

There is also a MANDATORY work meeting for ALL VOLUNTEERS that have signed up. This meeting will be held on Wednesday Oct 28th at 7:00pm at the Holiday Inn. At this meeting, we will break into groups so you can meet who you will be working with at Fest 8, go over details and job duties once again, and get the room set up and decorated for registration.

New this year we are asking that everyone who shows up to volunteer sign up meetings bring a valid photo ID and either a working cell phone, a cell phone bill with current address on it, or a GRU bill with current address on it. Why are we making this a rule this year? Well, last year we had several people who did not show up for their shifts and we had no phone number or way to track them down. When people flake on their shifts lots of things go wrong. With this, we will be able to send our crack team of bounty hunters out to seek swift and brutal vengeance upon anyone who fails to show up for their shift. Also, if you are under the age of 18 you must come with a parent or legal guardian to the sign up meeting. This way we know your folks are OK with you volunteering. We are also going to make everyone who volunteers this year sign a waiver exempting The Fest from all physical liability while you are working on THE Fest 8.

If you would like to be informed when these sign up/ information meetings will be held or have any questions, please email your full contact info to: volunteer@thefestfl.com

Well well well it is Friday and really close to clocking out time here at the No Idea/ FEST 8 offices. We have been super busy this week and deserve a evening of fun filled times. The sun is out, BBQ is being fired up, brews are getting cold, Virgins and Lords are coming to town and I am still able to wear my stupid flip flops everywhere! Today amongst all the stress and strains of trying to put on a massive party for you all on Halloween, I am filled with joy and ready to celebrate big time. For today friends we are excited to bring you a few pretty intense updates in the world of FEST 8!!!

Today we are first very stoked to be able to announce a reunion from Michigan’s Small Brown Bike for The FEST 8!!!

As many of you know the Bike recently announced that they were going to be playing a few Midwest dates. We instantly called them to see what the deal was and it did not take much convincing to get them to come join us once again for the party!

Small Brown Bike were originally part of the No Idea Records family releasing several ground breaking albums before leaving the label to released their final swan song for Lookout! Records and ultimately broke up in 2004. We were all very sad. Then in 2007 announcement came that the boys were planning a few reunion shows in September 2007 to benefit a dear friend of the band who had been battling Leukemia. With this news we quickly invited them to come to Gainesville and join us for FEST 6 since they had previously had to bail on FEST in 2004 when they called it a day. Mike from Small Brown Bike actually called the day of FEST 2 to say they would not be making it and have to bail. Var almost talked them into getting in the van and coming anyway. Well long story longer two years ago we got our wish and Small Brown Bike came and destroyed it with their final reunion at THE FEST 6. Check out the video of the entire explosive set here.

Along with the announcement of Small Brown Bike, we have another large chuck of confirmed bands now making the FEST 8 confirming over 300 bands!!! Yeah yeah yeah I know I said we would trim this year down but you know what? I’m a god damn liar and there are just too many god damn good bands!!!

NEWLY CONFIRMED FEST 8 BANDS:
Small Brown Bike, Josh Small, Madison Bloodbath, Thunderlip, Chotto Ghetto, Vaccine, Telephone Sons, Brook Pridemore, Stoned at Heart, Wurmchurch, The Terror in Tiny Town, Teenage Cool Kids, The Ex-Boogeymen, Jared Grabb, Prize Country, Vacation Bible School, Where The Land Meets The Sea, Stymie, Empty Orchestra, Devout, Hanalei, The Pizza Brothers, Worthwhile Way, Lost Hands Found Fingers, Surfer Blood, Apologies, I Have None, Dirty Fist, Jawsome, Weapons to Go, White Elephant Gift Exchange, John Walsh, Will Quinlan & The Diviners, and Trailer of Tears.

We also have for you today to freak out on is the preliminary version of the schedule here. We have listed bands playing by day. Keep in mind some of these bands will now contact us and let us know what day they were able to play and with that I say prove it! So enjoy thinking about if you should stay for Sunday or quit your fucking day job!!!

We will also have a FEST 8 ART/PHOTO SHOW that will be displayed at two locations the entire FEST 8 weekend with an opening Thursday October 30th.

The FEST 8 ART/PHOTO SHOW brings together art from all around the country, and from Gainesville's own back yard. Plus a photo gallery of FESTs past. ?Artist showing so far will be: Cristy Road, Lauren Denitzio (Red & Black Eye/ The Measure [SA], Joshua Mikel (Shark Guts Design/ Look Mexico), Laura Predny, and Lindsay Beaumont.

In other related FEST 8 news, National Undergroud has some amazing footage from FESTs past. You can check out a recent preview of an entire set from Dillinger Four, from FEST 7 where they play “Gainesville” to a packed house and packed stage full of drunken all stars here.

National Underground also has other antics from FESTs past including, Shook Ones, Paint It Black, None More Back, New Mexican Disaster Squad, A Wilhelm Scream, AVAIL, The Lawrence Arms, American Steel, Off With Their Heads, Planes Mistaken For Stars, Smoke or Fire, The Briggs, Glass & Ashes, and Dead to Me as well as impressive full live video stream in HD and downloadable audio MP3s of the entire sets from Against Me and Small Brown Bike from their last FEST performances. You can check all that out and more FEST goodness at the National Underground site.

There is also a trailer for a FEST documentary that the people from Blue Elephant are hoping to release. You can check out the debaucherous footage that makes THE FEST look like one pretty wild ass party here.

HOTEL FUN: The official FEST 8 hotel (Holiday Inn) is booked solid. We still have some room options still available there as well as rooms at the Paramount Plaza. Head to the hotels page to check it out!

That is it for this week. Next Friday we plan on having the complete schedule up for you all so the less you bug us this week the sooner we can get that done. Ha! Now we are going to clock out and soak up possible the last days we will have free to abuse our bodies until we see you all!!!

Hello FEST Friends,

I am happy today to bring you another batch of confirmed bands for FEST 8 to add to the already stellar lineup we have built of friends and family.

At this time I would like to introduce the followning bands who will be rockin' us all FEST weekend:

Gretski, Dave House, Michael Claytor & His Friends, Laserhead, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Julie Karr, So Many Dynamos, Broadway Calls, Emily Brodsky, The Swellers, Des Ark, Attica! Attica!, and a reunion from Gainesvillle/ No Idea legends Panthro UK United 13!!!!

We have finished going through the massive piles of applications from bands who want to play FEST 8. Next Friday we will announce who made the cut! It is going to be really hard because there are way more awesome bands then there are slots to play. We are working on finding some new spaces in town that would be gracious enough to let us take over and rage so keep your fingers crossed that we can charm them into it.

There are still rumors out that the FEST 8 has sold out! It will but has not yet so grab your weekend pass here on our tickets page.
