December 2nd! Wrap Up!

Hello FEST Friends,

Well, some time has pasted since the epic adventure of FEST 10! I hope that all of your livers have healed, your international crazy sickness (FEST AIDS) has passed, and that you have dodged all the creditors from making the trek to Gainesville. I really want to thank EVERYONE involved this year, attendees, volunteers, bands, and guests for making our big ten the absolute BEST FEST EVER!!!

With everything running pretty smooth I actually got to enjoy FEST a little this year. I got to see some great friends play, have actual conversations, meet some new folks, and see a few new bands. So many highlights personally for me but overall the comedy showcase at Rocky’s was one of the biggest. Biggest bummer happened within minutes of leaving Rockey’s when I was struck by a car while riding my bicycle to the Holiday Inn. I pretty much face planted on the pavement and spent the end of FEST 10 in the emergency room!

All has healed since then and honestly, if something was to go drastically wrong I would rather it happen to me than anyone else.

If you gaze up to the video player you will see we have posted an amazing FEST 10 recap video from our friends at Steadfast Video. They did an amazing job with this and I think really captured the true feeling that swarms the air at FEST!  If only you could smell the stale PBR in the air while watching it!

Also, if anyone did not get FEST 10 merch we have a little bit left. So, that leaves us looking ahead to 2012. I have FEST 11 on my brain and hope to be able to give everyone a heads up on the dates by the end of January 2012. Got a few ideas and kinks to work out until then so please keep following up on Twitter and Facebook for updates. FEST 10 is going to really be hard to top but we are going to give it 110% to make it even more epic!!! If there is a band you want to see play FEST 10 do not bug us about it. Go straight to the donkey’s tooth and nag the shit out of your favorite band!!! They will listen!

October 25th! Update!

Hello Fest Friends,

The final countdown has begun! Our offices are overflowing with papers, packets, merch, storage bins, backline, empty pizza boxes, and a few empty cold ones. I feel like we will totally be ready to rock, but it is going to take us all burning it at both ends until then. Lots of things to update so read everything below, and make it here safe!

MERCHLINE and PBR are throwing you a wild ass pool party from noon -7pm on the rooftop pool deck of the Holiday Inn. You MUST have a FEST WEKKEND WRISTBAND on to attend. Local Gainesville celebrity DJs will be rocking the event and there will be a shit ton of killer free stuff from both companies. I just unloaded a ton of boxes from PBR. October 12th! Update!

Hey Fest friends,

So, today we have some bummer news to share with you. Lifetime has to cancel their performance this year. Dan Yemin had this to say.

“We're sad to say that we're going to have to cancel, or as Tony so kindly put it, "bail," for Fest 10. Pete and his wife are expecting their second baby, and at their most recent doctor visit were told that this precocious creature is coming sooner than expected, which means that Pete understandably needs to stay put at home right now. Unfortunately, there are no guitarists (anywhere) good enough to replace him, even temporarily. We did, however, find a replacement band that's at least 75% as good.”

Replacement band? Who could take the place of Lifetime you say? How about Kid Dynamite? Yep! You message board cries have been heard and we are super stoked to announce that Kid Dynamite will playing their first time ever in Gainesville at FEST 10.

September 9th! Updates galore!

Hello FEST friends,

Today we got big news for ya, so I’ll jump right into the string of updates and new shits!

THE SCHEDULE IS UP!

View the schedule for FEST 10 here. I hope nothing changes, but things happen. For now, this is a good start. Keep in mind that this year, more than any other year, there will be crucial conflicts. That is what happens when we book too many kick ass bands!

You will also notice on the schedule the “MYSTERY BAND” slots. These slots will be filled by bands already playing who wanted to do surprise shows at smaller venues. You know, to kinda get back to their roots from earlier Fests. We will announce each band the morning of via our phone apps, twitter, facebook etc. Let the wild rumors begin!

Also, The Florida Theater of Gainesville is THE VENUE and Double Down Live is COMMON GROUNDS, and LOOSEY’s is the smaller pub side of what was Market Street for all of you returning folks.

NEW SHIRT DESIGNS

The mighty HORSEBITES has struck again and has unleashed a wonderful new shirt design for us all. We liked it so much that we are gonna step it up and print it on a hip Tultex shirt and make these sleeveless hoodies that I have been told are unisex. I’m totally gonna make one for Davey Tiltwheel!

FEST ART POSTER

More from Horsebites! To celebrate our big 10 year anniversary, I asked Richard to design a art poster that had all the characters from FESTS past.  As you can see it totally kicks ass! 24"x18" Poster Hand Screenprinted on grey paper (limited to 100) and will come in a special poster tube so you can easily take it back with you and not fuck it up.

Happy Thursday! I have a few updates for you to chew on as I depart for the always wonderful, always beautiful St. Augustine for some much needed beach time.

That means that we are up to 237 confirms for FEST 10. We are pretty much full but still waiting to get the green light on a few acts that I have been working on for some time now.

Next up, we have something FREE for you. Head over to our newly created FEST 10 Bandcamp page to download the first installment of the FEST 10 DIGITAL COMP. So far we have enough to make six of these and will be adding them to this Bandcamp page the weeks leading up to this whole shin-dig. I give major thanks to all the bands who submitted their jams for this. Enjoy this fine mix over the last breath of summer. It pairs well with a chilled bouquet of PBR and Powers whiskey.

I am sure there will be a fair share of PRE-FEST action going down in Tampa, Orlando, St. Auggie and other Florida hot spots. We will try to keep you updated when we catch wind of them.

Finally, FEST 10 WEEKEND PASSES are still sold out. Bummer, I know. We are still working on new spaces but I am afraid it has just been a slow process. However, I am hoping that we will be able to sell more passes as soon as we can get the bands playing FEST 10 to turn in their band info (cough cough email Sarah). Once we get all this in, we will have an accurate count on how many bands’ people will be here for the weekend. If the number is less than last year we can sell the difference and open up weekend passes again. To reiterate, if you know anyone in a band playing this year ride their asses to turn in their band info!!!

Remember, we will also be selling 10% of each venues capacity as day walk ups for each individual shows. Hence, if you do not have a FEST 10 weekend pass, you can still go to the shows you want. You just need to show up early and pay when doors open.

July 6th! Update!

Holy Shit, Festers!

So, the 500 passes we put up for sale today (July 6th) at 12:01pm EST sold out in 7 minutes. WTF! So, we do not have any more weekend passes for sale at this time. Do not give up hope just yet though. We are in talks with a few more spaces/venues in Gainesville. Once we lock them in as venues we will be able to sell more weekend passes. As of right now we have sold 2,750 weekend passes. Many folks ask why so few? Well, when you add up all the attendees, band members, volunteers/staff, press, and sponsors you end up with over 5,000 people in attendance and that is about how many folks can fit in all the venues combined. We do not want to be jerks and over sell this festival!!!  So, for now I guess just keep following us on Twitter and Facebook to see when we will be able to release more FEST 10 passes for sale.

June 29th! Update!

FESTers!

Heads up!

There are new renters for the space formally known as Common Grounds. They have not opened yet, but we are pleased to announce that the new space will be hosting FEST 10 bands all weekend long! The new space will be called “Double Down Live” (http://www.myspace.com/doubledownlivegvl). From what we are told, they will keep the same set up, staff, and sound system as Common Grounds.

With this addition, we are also pleased to say that we will be able to sell more FEST 10 passes! On July 6^th at 12:01pm EST, we will open up 500 weekend passes for sale. Go to the TICKETS page at that time. This gives you a week to spread the word to your friends who did not get their passes before the initial sell out. So to my friends in Gainesville…wake the fuck up! This year is a big deal, so you can’t sit on your ass or your weed money until the weekend-of and expect to walk up and buy a pass!

Also, we will be announcing more bands to the lineup now that we have room. I will not do this for at least two weeks from now because I need that time to work over the schedule for the fourth time and see what spots we have open. BANDS/ AGENTS/ LABELS please do NOT email me about this. If we have spoken about your band before, then I have you in the list of folks who want to play. This list has become quite massive and some bigger bands have now expressed interest in playing FEST 10. I will contact you if you are selected.

Hey FESTERS,

So, every year, the Holiday Inn (FEST HQ) has a group of high school kids take over the 5th floor on FEST weekend while they are in town for a UF young business leaders of the future conference thing. Funny, right? While you guys are all going apeshit on vacation, your future bosses are sleeping above or below you. This year, they are leaving on SUNDAY morning.

What does this mean for us? We can have the 5th floor on SUNDAY!!! So, if you are so worried about not attending this “secret” show we have planned, here is your chance to secure your spot. Go to the HOTELS page and book your room now!!! There are only 23 available. First come, first party!
